Cuban Soul Meets the Blues: Nini Camps & Frank Ferrara

$30.00

Friday, September 18
8:00 P.M.

Two musical traditions. One surprisingly shared language.

Singer-songwriter and first-generation Cuban American Nini Camps and guitarist Frank Ferrara explore the intersection of traditional Cuban music and the American blues, placing songs from these two rich traditions side by side and letting the connections reveal themselves.

From “Chan Chan,” “Candela,” “El Carretero” and “Guantanamera” to “Trouble in Mind,” “Death Letter,” “Rollin’ and Tumblin’” and other blues classics, the evening traces the call-and-response, repeating riffs, hypnotic grooves, storytelling and improvisation that run through both musical worlds.

For Camps, the performance is also a return to the rhythms and melodies of her Cuban heritage. For Ferrara, a lifelong student of global musical traditions, it’s an exploration of the musical vocabulary that connects seemingly distant cultures.

With special guests joining throughout the evening, Cuban Soul Meets the Blues is part concert, part musical conversation, a journey from Cuba to the American South and into the common ground between them.
